What if... if we turned surplus fruit into opportunity?

Alumni Spotlight:  Stuart McGruddy – Director, My Berries

That question reflected a clear challenge with long-term potential for My Berries. Founded in 2013 in the heart of Moreton Bay’s berry growing region, the company set out to create value from surplus fruit that would otherwise go to waste. With close ties to local growers and strong year-round demand, My Berries was a brand on the rise.

The turning point

As the company continued to evolve, so too did the ambition – to build new connections and unlock new avenues for growth. At this critical juncture, the founders recognised the importance of independent perspectives. This led My Berries to join Queensland Leaders in 2016.

Queensland Leaders

Through Queensland Leaders, My Berries connected with experienced advisors and industry leaders who provided valuable insights and guidance. The founders were supported by this strong and inclusive network.

In particular, the introduction to a respected food industry mentor proved pivotal. Sharing both experience and contacts, this relationship helped the company move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Meaningful outcomes

Following involvement with Queensland Leaders, My Berries has strengthened operational capability, increased brand awareness and achieved significant growth – with products stocked in more than 1,200 stores across Australia.

This growth has been driven by continued investment in product innovation and advanced manufacturing to meet demand. Back-to-back wins at the Moreton Bay Business Excellence and Innovation Awards reflect this momentum.

Personal reflections

“Our whole business was guided in the right direction by the Queensland Leaders community. The people involved were incredibly generous with their time, support and advice. This experience was above and beyond our expectations.”

What if…?

From reducing food waste to building a nationally recognised brand, My Berries is a true #eatqld champion.

The company has a relentless focus on technology and automation. What if My Berries could make an even greater impact on the food industry and expand to international markets?

For privately-owned companies in the Queensland Leaders community, the journey often starts the same way.

It starts with a simple question: What if…?
