The Most Common Website Issues & How To Know If You’ve Got Them

Peter Curran, Digital Surfer

Your website is one your most powerful selling tools. Alone, it can bring in tens of thousands, if not millions of dollars, in business every year — if it works, that is.

A website with issues is letting easy leads and sales slip through the cracks. Often, business owners don’t even know about the most common website issues. These are some of the top site problems we see every day, and how to check if you have them.

Top 3 Most Common Website Issues of 2025

1. Non-responsive design.

In an ideal world, everyone would have the exact same computer, browser and screen size. But they don’t. And unfortunately, websites don’t always work as well or fit on them all. The problem with this is that your website design, content, menus, buttons and links might not work right, and you could be losing business if it’s not.

How to check if your website is not responsive:

Checking if your website is responsive is super easy. On a desktop computer, open your website on an internet browser of your choice. Now, just change the size of the browser so it’s bigger, more narrow, wider, etc. Does the website adapt perfectly to each size? If not, you have a problem, but it can be fixed.

2. Not built for mobile.

This is similar to having a non-responsive website design, but it’s so important it needs a section of its own. The majority of your website visitors will be using a mobile device, but despite this, websites aren’t automatically built for them. Buttons can often be broken, text and images can run off the screen or all over the place. Sometimes menus don’t work. So, it’s best to check as you could be losing potential business.

How to check if your website is mobile friendly:

Similar to checking if your website design is responsive on desktop, open your website on your mobile phone. Scroll through different pages, click on buttons, try your forms — do it all. If it doesn’t all work perfectly, you need to get someone on that ASAP.

3. Forms leading to nowhere.

You’d be surprised how often business owners think they’re not getting leads, but the issue is their forms aren’t being forwarded to an email they have access to. This can be an issue as well if you have forms that feed into a CRM (customer relationship manager), or more complex funnels that may break.

How to check if your website forms work:

It’s quick and easy to check if your forms are working as they should. Submit a form yourself and see if you get it. Also check all your buttons and phone numbers on your site, as they can break too, especially if you change page links.
