Donna Benjamin, Managing Director - Peak Coaching
Most leaders I meet aren’t deliberately holding their people back. They’re smart, committed and under pressure to deliver more with less.
But under the surface, small everyday choices about how work is designed, led and experienced can quietly cap both employee capacity and
organisational results. When roles are overloaded, expectations are unclear, and the way we measure performance hasn’t kept pace with how
work is actually done, even the best people spend more time coping than creating.
From a human greatness lens, peak performance isn’t about squeezing more effort, it’s about creating the conditions where people can genuinely thrive. That means paying attention to the invisible stuff like how safe it feels to speak up, how well leaders understand the different ways their people think and work, and whether our systems and processes support focus or constantly fragment it. Neuroscience and leadership research consistently show that when people feel understood, supported and trusted, their cognitive capacity, problem‑solving and collaboration all lift and so do business outcomes.
The tricky part is that many of the patterns that limit performance are leadership blind spots. We over‑index on results and under‑invest in the “how”; we assume others think like we do; we design roles around yesterday’s problems and expect today’s people to simply keep up. None of this comes from bad intent but it does quietly erode engagement, wellbeing and ultimately performance.
If you're curious about where your organisation might be unintentionally capping capacity, I've developed a short Leadership Blind Spot Scorecard you can use (click Here) with your leaders to surface hidden constraints and opportunities.
Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to talk through where your leadership practices are helping or hindering human greatness.
